Il s’étend sur 110 kilomètres, est sans doute le plus vaste « musée » d’art du monde et attire un million de « visiteurs » par jour… Ce portrait insolite est celui du réseau du métro de Stockholm, témoin de la volonté des autorités de rendre l’art contemporain le plus largement accessible, notamment à travers l’espace public. Depuis les années 1950, quelque 90 de ses 100 stations que comptent la capitale suédoise et ses environs ont en effet été investies par les sculptures, mosaïques, peintures, et installations de plus de 150 artistes, dans le cadre d’un programme culturel soutenu par la ville. Des visites guidées sont régulièrement organisées et plusieurs stations proposent un programme d’expositions temporaires tout au long de l’année.
